We miss the beautiful cherry blossoms in Tokyo, the swanky beach clubs in Bali, and the majestic Taj Mahal in Agra. The Covid-19 pandemic has made many of those wonderful destinations in Asia inaccessible in 2020. Many Asian countries like China, Singapore, and South Korea were among the first ones to get hit hard by the pandemic, and as a result, went into lock-down earlier and, generally speaking, managed to flatten their curves earlier. With second and third waves now sweeping the world (India, for example, continues to battle what remains the second worst outbreak in the world), Asian countries are taking a rather slow and cautious approach to reopen their borders.

To help you sift through all the information, we have put together this Asia-Pacific Covid-19 reopening guide. Broken down into 4 sub-regions (East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Oceania), this guide is frequently updated to show country by country where you can travel right now and what are the entry requirements such as vaccinations, tests, and quarantines. We consider a country “reopened” only when foreign visitors can enter for non-essential travel (i.e. for tourism purpose). For additional details on individual countries, please also check the official links in the Details column.
